Yesterday, we re-upped our month-to-month rental agreement with our landlord. So we’ll definitely be in Mendoza until October 23. It feels oddly good to be this sort of settled. I feel like I’m learning Spanish slowly and without the pressure of, “Oh my gawd, I only have three days left to learn as much as possible!!” So that is nice.We’re thinking about heading South in November. I need to write PhD applications (due roughly December 15) and I think a quiet small town might be good for that. If anyone knows of great small towns in Western Argentina (think: Lake region? Something near San Martin de los Andes, but less touristy?), let me know!

Nate Gottfried forwarded this blog entry on to me and asked me if I had any suggestions. I lived in Buenos Aires last year for a good part of the year. Unfortunately, I don't know much of the countryside except for Iguazu (PS: Go there. It is the most amazing thing I have ever seen with my own eyes). I do know that the locals like tend to like Bariloche quite a bit. On a random side note, if you happen to be in Buenos Aires November 23-29, let me know...there is a good chance I will be there. If you have any questions, let me know.

how about caracas? not exactly south or quiet, but i will be there...and lodging would be free!
