during the gold rush days, miners had 2 days off a year--Christmas & the 4th of July.apparently, the legacy continues. 4th of july is supposed to be a big deal up here. big. my soon-to-be-boss tries to leave town.
a parade (with a now-famous "bong hits for jesus" banner flying, it is rumored), fireworks (even though it doesn't quite get dark yet...), and kids' games (this year they dug for chocolate pudding in cupcakes to learn about drilling for oil. gotta love natural resource extraction!).
should be a blast...i'll let you know how it goes!
